The Joint Base San Antonio 502d FSS is the home of all MWR activities across Joint Base San Antonio: JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland, JBSA-Randolph, JBSA-Camp Bullis and JBSA Recreation Park at Canyon Lake.
A branding system was needed for a new event that would eventually become a recurring concert series held at JBSA. There was an initial vision for what was wanted, however the clients needed a designer to be able to translate the vision into reality across the necessary media.
Schedule a meeting with the clients for collaboration on design concepts prior to any design development.
Begin the design conceptualization process based on creative feedback received from clients.
Receive approval from both the clients & leadership before you prepare for production.
Confirm all sponsor logos are present before initial marketing goes to print.
Share files with the offices at JBSA-Lackland & JBSA-Randolph, so they can print & distribute.
Begin design conceptualization for the marketing used on the day of the event based on the information provided by the clients.
Receive approval once again from both the client and leadership before preparing the marketing materials for production.

The name of the event was Concert At The Creek. As such the client’s inspiration for the design was vintage concert posters. Research was conducted into the various ways I could incorporate this style into the design. It was when I experimented with offsetting the stroke multiple times on sans-serif typefaces that I was able come up with the concept for the primary logo. A second logo was designed for the future iterations of this event. As the vision for this event was that it would be a series of concerts held year to year. As such there was a need for a “Concerts At the Creek” logo. Especially so that there could be a stage banner that could be reused as the material to print banners on is very expensive and banners for the stage are quite large.
The inspiration behind the design for the poster was vintage concert poster design. The client had a piece that was their vision, however the graphic wasn’t representative of the venue at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. I also needed to consider that this was a new event, so there was no existing graphics of a concert at Salado Creek Park. Taking that into account, I found park graphics and abstracted them so that you couldn’t tell where they are, but you could still get the vibe. Incorporating the color palette from the example piece is what lead me to the final design.
