Children's Hospital of San Antonio Valentine's Day Cards

Work Created as a Contractor with ESD & Associates

The Client

The moment the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word arrived in San Antonio in 1869, health care for children was transformed. By 1891, the Sisters congregation had grown to nearly 200 and had established the Santa Rosa Infirmary. The Sisters continued to care for the children of San Antonio throughout the 20th century, building the first and only hospital for children, Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, in 1959. The hospital became part of the CHRISTUS family in 1999. The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio is the culmination of the vision of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and the CHRISTUS Health System leadership.

The Problem/Goal

The client was looking for Valentine’s Day card designs for a special fundraising campaign. Each card would use animal puns as they wanted to include a dog card that would represent their golden retriever they had added to their team.

The Solution

For each design I kept concepts such as “round” and “soft” in mind because those are key ideas that come to mind when thinking about designing graphics involving children. As a unifying element across each card, each character is holding a heart, happy to have received it.
